Technical Rescue
TAG's technical rescue courses all comply with BS7985 and the guidance of volume 5 of
the Fire Service Manual. They are designed for workers who must provide a
professional rescue service within industry or the emergency services. Our
courses follow a three-tier structure based around a dedicated team:
- Operator
A full-range team member who can move within climbing, rope access and
confined space structures, operate hauling and stretcher-handling systems,
perform searches and colleague evacuations but all under the direct
instruction of a team leader. There is no element of planning at the
Operative level.
- Leader
A hands-on controller of a group of Operatives, the team Leader is
responsible for deciding and instructing the rigging of systems to achieve
a set goal. Leaders must be previously-trained Operatives.
- Supervisor
A hands-off strategic planning role, the Supervisor controls the
legislative, safety and logistics of a complex technical rescue. They
usually do not engage in the rescue itself, and as such do not need to be
previously qualified as Operatives or Leaders, although it greatly helps.
These courses are ideal for dedicated high-angle rescue teams in industry
(petrochemical or offshore), fire and police rope rescue units. We usually
suggest that teams attend as a group, as there is strong emphasis on structure
and management of personnel.
Our courses are modular, in that Operatives and Leaders can elect to add specific
specialisms to their qualification by attending additional courses, such as:
- Casualty handling / stretcher specialist
- Confined space / BA specialist
- Heavy load rigging specialist
- Collapsed Structure specialist
