Rope Access

TAG's rope access courses all comply with BS7985:2005. They are designed for workers who must access structures whilst suspended on ropes. Climbing differs from rope access in that the worker uses their hands and feet to move within the structure, with PPE operating in fall arrest mode. Rope access uses twin ropes to suspend the worker instead of loading the structure. Rope access is commonly used for maintenance and cleaning of buildings, inspections of roof spaces, bridges, silos or chimneys. As there is no need for handholds, rope access can be used to position a worker on or near any kind of structure, even in mid air.

IRATA has long been the 'industry standard' course and is very similar to the British Standard. IRATA accreditation is often required for offshore work, however the courses are slightly more expensive and there is a strict time delay between applying for each level. IRATA 1 and our BS technician course need no prior skills (other than a head for heights). Our supervisor course covers management and safety aspects of rope access operations and is suitable for experienced technicians who are asked to plan and supervise the work of others.
