CS05 Confined Space Access & Rescue

Overview

This course specifically concentrates on the advanced rescue skills required to provide on-site cover for those working in confined spaces (of any type). It assumes previous qualification in entry and BA, and covers searching, advanced winching and hauling systems, operations in zero visibility, incident management and immediate-response risk assessment (IRRA).
There is an element of assessment in this course.


Prerequisites

Those attending must hold a valid certification in our CS03 Traversing and CS02 Breathing Apparatus modules (or equivalents), and be medically fit for the practical element of the course. There will be extensive use of working breathing apparatus, and candidates with some respiratory conditions will be prevented from attending. Candidates who require spectacles for normal work should wear contact lenses or bring mask-fitting optics.


Who Should Attend

Persons who are required to provide on-site rescue cover for confined space operations, including evacuation of casualties using stretchers. It is not suitable for those involved in mining operations. There is no medical aspect to this module, candidates may be required by their intended work to hold First Aid or advanced certification.

  • Introduction of the working B/A
  • Before use checks/Donning and starting procedures
  • B/A control procedures
  • Practical exercises including basic rescue procedures using associated equipment
  • After use inspection B/A

Certification
