ER02 Entertainment Rigger : Climber

Overview

The 4-day course provides a full introduction to the climbing and rope access skills required for aerial rigging on sets and in venues. It covers the complete range of skills from basic climbing and access through truss traversing, structural roof access, abseil and slinging, use and selection of anchors, self-rescue and cut-rescue, PPE inspection and standards compliance. It provides candidates with all the skills required to operate at height in temporary or permanent rigs, and is specifically tailored to the demands of the entertainment industry in terms of skills and equipment.
The course complies with BS7985 COP for the use of Rope Access Methods for Industrial Purposes & BS8454:2006 COP for Delivery of Training & Education for Work at Height and Rescue. The syllabus follows guidelines from PLASA and ABTT.
There is an element of assessment in this course.


Prerequisites

Those attending should be medically fit to carry out the practical part of the course. It is preferable that candidates have some experience of the entertainment rigging industry so that they are familiar with work terminology and equipment. A head for heights is essential!


Who Should Attend

Riggers, lighting and sound technicians, grips or road crew who need to climb and work at height within stage trussing, venue and stage roof areas or stadium towers. It concentrates on personal access and is independent of your job function.


Course Objectives & Content

On completion of the course, all delegates will be informed in:


  • Know current / relevant standards and legislation
  • Select, use and inspect relevant personal and installed PPE systems
  • Produce method statements and risk assessments relating to climbing and access
  • Select and identify safe anchors, structural safety of truss rigs and towers
  • Climb within trussing, roof bracing, towers and headspaces using lanyards, lifelines or ropes
  • Traverse structures using double-sling techniques
  • Climb and abseil using twin ropes (equivalent to a level 1 rope technician)
  • Perform an abseil cut rescue of a suspended casualty

Certification
